Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has apologised to soul star Adele for calling her "too fat".

Lagerfeld sorry for Adele 'fat' remark

The creative director for French fashion house Chanel wants to make amends with the British singer after he recently criticised her figure in an interview with European newspaper Metro.

Lagerfeld insists his comments were taken out of context, and calls himself a "great admirer" of the Rolling in the Deep hitmaker.

He says: "I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out it changes the meaning of the thought.

"Adele is my favourite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos 10 years ago and know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl."

Lagerfeld sparked outrage from fans after remarking that Adele is "a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice".
