Jim was last seen in the soap in 2011 when he was arrested for attempting to rob a Building Society in order to give ex-wife Liz McDonald money to buy the Rovers Return.

The character was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Storyline details of Jim's return are being kept secret, but producers have revealed he will still be serving time in jail and viewers will see more of his life behind bars.

Lawson was a regular in Coronation Street between 1989 and 2000 and has made a number of appearances in recent years.

It has been confirmed he will begin filming in June and will appear on screen later this year.

I was always under the impression he was from shankill road area after watching a progamme about ''bloody friday''and he was on it in a cab just off the springfield road and was saying that this was an area which he was not familiar with and would never have thought of venturing to this part of the city because he would've felt intimidated and frightened
