Jeff Anderson is competing in the live finals of talent show Superstar on UTV every night this week.

So far, he has made it into the final ten and his family and friends are hoping the judges, who have dubbed the 21-year-old 'Baby Jesus', will see his singing potential.

Jeff was one of around 200 men who auditioned for the role at the Culloden Hotel earlier this year, the first time that Andrew Lloyd Webber has held castings in Northern Ireland.

He gave UTV a blast of his celebrated singing voice and when asked if Baron Lloyd-Webber would find his superstar in NI, Jeff replied: "Of course!"

It would be a familiar role for Jeff, who played the part of Jesus in an amateur dramatics production of the musical in the Grand Opera House last year.

You’re blessed with the fact that the camera really loves you.

Judge Dawn French

Speaking at the time of the auditions, Andrew Lloyd Webber said the person who wins Superstar will have to be "brilliant".

"This is not an easy role. We are talking about a big rock sing," he explained.

On the original album, the role of Jesus was sung by Deep Purple front man Ian Gillan and Jeff hopes his background as the lead singer of rock band Wanted Alive will give him the edge against his competitors.

"I'm in a rock band, I love rock music, I love musical theatre, so if you bring them both together you've pretty much got Jesus Christ Superstar," he explained.

On Monday evening's show, Jeff belted out his version of Mr Brightside, originally by The Killers, and judge Dawn French said he "really pulled off" changing the melody.

And responding to Jeff's new nickname, Andrew Lloyd Webber said: "If your baby has got a beard, take him to the doctor."

Jason Donovan and Baron Lloyd-Webber both commended Jeff on his performance, but said they will be looking for him to dig a little deeper for Tuesday's performance.

"I think you will grow as we go on," said the 64-year-old composer.

The search for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Superstar continues on UTV on Tuesday at 9pm.
