Jay Z, his wife Beyonce and her sister Solange Knowles have issued a statement saying they are working through their differences, after footage was leaked of a blazing row in a New York hotel.

The trio exclusively told the Associated Press that "families have problems and we're no different".

The leaked video appears to show Solange kicking Jay-Z in front of Beyonce, before a security guard at the Standard Hotel intervenes.

"There has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it," the statement insists.

"Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public.

"They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."

The statement also dismissed reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behaviour throughout the evening in question as false.

The person who leaked the video footage has since been fired by the hotel.
