The teen teamed up with Jackie Chan for the 2010 action movie, which was an update of the classic 1984 hit starring Ralph Macchio.

The release was a success and pulled in more than $350m (£218m) at the global box office - and now studio executives have put plans in place for a follow-up.

According to industry publication Variety, The Incredible Hulk screenwriter Zak Penn has been hired to write the script and both Smith and Chan are lined up to reprise their roles.
