Irish X Factor hopeful serenades Cheryl

Irish singing hopeful Ben Quinlan has used his first X Factor audition as a chance to serenade the woman of his dreams, judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

Before entering the audition room Ben, 19, told host Dermot O'Leary: "I would have swam here if I could to see her."And just in case viewers didn't quite grasp how much he loved the Crazy Stupid Love singer, he added: "I love animals and I love Cheryl. If I was to describe Cheryl it would be better than an angel singing with the loudest voice in heaven."The singing hopeful finally fulfilled his dream of meeting Cheryl and quickly presented her with a green rose, telling her: "You've been an inspiration to me."Getting down to the actual singing Ben performed a rendition of Shane Ward's That's My Goal for the panel, which also included Simon Cowell, Mel B and Louis Walsh.During his performance Ben managed to get the Geordie singer to dance along with him, albeit awkwardly, as the rest of the judges looked on.His serenading paid off as the panel felt he was good enough to go through to the next stage of the competition, and the good news continued as Simon gave him permission to give Cheryl a kiss before he left the audition room. Also appearing in The X Factor series opener on Saturday was 25-year-old Amy Connelly who was last seen on the show in 2008 when she made it as far as Cheryl's judge's house.Oh wow @xAmyConnellyx never heard that song before.... Absolutely beautiful! #Xfactor2014— Olly Murs (@ollyofficial) August 30, 2014Performing a rendition of With You from Ghost, Amy once again managed to reduce Cheryl to tears as she did in her first audition six years ago."It was really beautiful. It was captivating," Cheryl told her."It honestly is like a flashback to me. Something you do to me, we have a connection. I'm so happy to see you."Louis added: "I love the fact you've come back, it was very emotional.""Your voice is outstanding; you can see and hear the emotion," said Mel B.Amy received four yes votes from the panel and will also be performing at the arena auditions for the judges.Opening this year's room auditions was sister act duo Blonde Electric, who performed Jessie J's Do It Like A Dude. And I really like Jay. Nice guys can do well.— Simon Cowell (@SimonCowell) August 30, 2014Jazzy, 24, and Ruby, 22, seemed shocked when Simon compared their performance to a group of people drawing their nails down a blackboard, but their hopes were lifted when he added: "(You're) irritating in a way that I'm fascinated by you."Louis agreed with Simon, telling them: "I think people are going to like you, I think people are going to dislike you. I think you're a little bit loopy, but all pop stars are - you've definitely got something."Mel B said: "In some weird way I thought you're that annoying, you're good."Cheryl wasn't in agreement with her fellow panellists telling the sisters they weren't her "cup of tea" but the duo did receive three yes votes which was enough to put them through. Also winning a place in the arena auditions was 30-year-old ex-navy officer Jay James, who brought Mel B to tears with his version of Say Something by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera. He will be joined by 16-year-old Reece Bibby, who performed his own rendition of Disclosure's Latch, and posh model Chloe Jasmine, whose "bluesy" performance of Ella Fitzgerald's Black Coffee, won her four yes votes from the panel. The X Factor returns to UTV on Sunday from 8pm.Yes guys I am at home feeling very nostalgic watching @TheXFactor.
