Chris Brown has spoken out about the night he beat up then girlfriend Rihanna, and admitted he still loves her.

The RnB singer told People magazine and CNN's Larry King in interviews that his feelings for the Umbrella singer hadn't changed since the February beating that left her bloody and bruised.

Brown, who has been sentenced to five years probation and community work, told People: "I never fell out of love with her - that just wouldn't go away."

The artist has also said he remembered beating Rihanna and that a brief interview clip circulated online in which he said he didn't recall the incident "is not representative of what I said".

The artist told People in a statement that he "misspoke" during the 30-second clip and that he was asked "something like four or five times" about the argument with Rihanna during an hour-long interview.

"Of course I remember what happened," Brown, 20, said in a statement.

"Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur."

In the interview with People, Brown said he called his mother, who was a domestic violence victim, on the night of the attack.

"I was distraught. I went to my mom on the same night and told (her) what happened and broke down," he said.

And he told King in an interview that he was still in shock about his actions, saying: "When I look at it now, it's just like, wow, like, I can't believe that that actually happened."

Brown's mother accompanied her son during both interviews.

The singer released a video statement last month in which he apologised to fans and said he had repeatedly apologised to Rihanna.
