Gleeson cast in new Star Wars film

Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson - son of In Bruges and The Guard star Brendan Gleeson - has been cast in the new instalment of the hit film franchise Star Wars.

Gleeson has previously appeared in the Harry Potter series and Richard Curtis' latest romantic comedy About Time.Star Wars: Episode VII is due to begin filming in the UK next month.It has also been announced original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are set to reprise their roles as Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.Other original stars to return will include Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Kenny Baker (R2-D2) in the new film.Among the newcomers to the cast are UK actor John Boyega, who starred in sci-fi London gang film Attack The Block, and Inside Llewyn Davis co-stars Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac.Finally I can officially say: I'M IN!!! #StarWars#StarWarsEpVII— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) April 30, 2014The cast will also include little-known Brit Daisy Ridley, whose credits include a role in ITV drama Mr Selfridge and veteran Minority Report actor Max von Sydow.Lord of The Rings actor Andy Serkis will also feature in the film.Director JJ Abrams said: "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII."It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again."We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."The new film is set to be released in December of next year. A picture of the first Star Wars cast read-through was posted online.
