Kind-hearted Ricky Gervais has stepped up his quest to ban cosmetic testing on animals - he's launching a global campaign to end the "cruel" practice.

Gervais steps up animal rights campaign

The Office star, a well-known animal rights advocate and an ambassador for Cruelty Free International, is appalled vivisection for cosmetics still takes place in countries around the world.

He's now urging his legion of fans to join his campaign for an international ban on laboratory testing on animals.

Gervais says: "I am delighted to support the launch of Cruelty Free International, the exciting global campaign to end the use of animals in product testing. Animal testing for cosmetics is still allowed in most of the world. That means thousands of animals can continue to die for the sake of a new shampoo.

"We urgently need a worldwide ban on this cruel and unnecessary suffering. It's time to close the door on testing products on animals."

Earlier this year, the funnyman celebrated two major victories after a ban on using wild animals in circuses was passed in Britain and officials blocked plans to build a dog farm in the UK to breed beagles for lab tests.
