The Take That star will receive the trophy in recognition of his songwriting, his charity work and the star-studded Diamond Jubilee Concert he organised for Queen Elizabeth II last month.
David Munns, chairman of the award committee, says: "We are delighted to honour Gary Barlow with the Music Industry Trusts Award for 2012. He is one of the UK's most accomplished artists - a unique musician, songwriter and producer who embodies both success and distinction, and who serves as a dedicated ambassador for many charities.
"It's probably true to say that, in what is already a remarkable career, 2012 has been like no other year for Gary. I can't think of another artist who works with both Simon Cowell and Her Majesty The Queen; eventful is an understatement."
Barlow will follow in the footsteps of previous recipients including Sir Elton John and Sir Tom Jones when he picks up his prize at a ceremony in London on 5 November.
