The Harry Potter star and funnyman Henry talked over the state of their union for several months before going public with the split in 2010.
French admits the pair struggled to accept its marriage was over, telling the Daily Mirror: "I think maybe one of us did (realise), and then the other did over a period of time, and then in the end we thought, 'Oh, actually, maybe we both do'. And so in that time before other people knew we got a bit drunk, talked and we were very good friends."
