The Saturdays star was admitted to a facility for help with undisclosed issues in October, and in the latest edition of publication Glamour, Sandford opened up about her personal problems.
She revealed: "I got upset because (boyfriend) Wayne hadn't bought the right yogurts. I managed to convince myself that he didn't know me at all. It set off this spiral of negative thinking - if I disappeared it wouldn't matter to anyone. In fact it would make everyone's life easier. I felt I was worthless, that I was ugly, that I didn't deserve anything."
Sandford, who has signed up as a spokesperson for mental health charity MIND, has now explained her decision to go public with her depression and thanked fans for their ongoing support.
In a post on the group's website, she writes: "Opening up and talking about something so personal wasn't easy, but I wanted to set the record straight and share my story in the hope that it will encourage other people suffering from the condition to get help.
"I'm now proud to front the MIND campaign for better mental health... For the record, I want you all to know how much your love and support has meant to me. Saturdays fans rock!"
