Four charged over Hoffman drugs

Four men have been charged with drugs offences possibly connected to the suspected heroin found in the apartment of U.S actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, police have said.

Hoffman was found dead in the bathroom of the property on Sunday.It is believed he died as a result of a suspected heroin overdose.The four men have been named by New York police as Robert Vineberg, 57, Thomas Cushman, 48, Max Rosenblum and Juliana Luchkiw, both 22.They were held following a raid in the Chinatown district of Manhattan, New York on Tuesday.The men were detained after police traced what they believe to have been the source of the heroin suspected of killing the Oscar-winning actor.However the arrests have not been officially linked to Hoffman's death.Vineberg and Cushman have been charged with felony drug possession, while Rosenblum and Luchkiw were charged with misdemeanor drug possession.It has been confirmed to U.S media outlet NBC that Hoffman's phone number was found on the mobile phone of one the men arrested during the raid.Hoffman had admitted struggling with drug addiction in the past but had reportedly been clean for 23 years before a relapse last year. He had checked into rehab in May for heroin use.The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the exact cause of death.Police are also piecing together the last hours of the actor's life before his body was discovered.According to reports, he withdrew $1,200 (£735) over six visits to a cash machine the day before his death.Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film Capote, after starring in films including Boogie Nights and the Big Lebowski.
