While regular host Dermot O'Leary will continue as the show's main presenter, Flack will be hosting backstage, talking to contestants before they perform and revealing behind-the-scenes gossip.
Flack will also continue with her duties as The Xtra Factor co-host, alongside Matt Richardson.
Speaking about her new role, she said: "I can't wait to help out Dermot on The X Factor and share all the backstage antics with people at home. Live shows this year are going to be the best yet."
O'Leary added: "It's a big family at The X Factor and I'm thrilled to have Caroline on board on the main show. She is my TV little sister and she'll be great."
The X Factor live shows kick off on Saturday, with the final 12 contestants performing a classic track from the 80s.
This year Gary Barlow will look after the Groups, Sharon Osbourne will mentor the Over 25s, Louis Walsh has the Boys and Nicole Scherzinger will take care of the Girls.
A format change to the voting system will see one unlucky act immediately put in the bottom two sing-off during a flash vote in the live shows.
This means the act with the lowest amount of votes after 10 minutes of lines being opened during the Saturday show will be put into a sing-off with another act the following Sunday.
After the flash vote, voting lines for the remaining contestants will then reopen until Sunday night's show where the second contestant to face the sing off will be revealed.
The X Factor live shows begin on UTV on Saturday and Sunday from 8pm.
