Sir Ranulph Fiennes has finally been evacuated from Antarctica after bad weather hampered efforts to rescue the famed explorer.

Fiennes evacuated from Antarctica

Fiennes, who is a cousin of acting siblings Ralph and Joseph Fiennes, pulled out of a planned charity trek after contracting frostbite, but efforts to evacuate him this week were set back by a blizzard.

A rescue teamed finally reached Fiennes, 68, on Wednesday and he was removed from the base camp before flying to South Africa to receive treatment.

Fiennes was struck down with frostbite while preparing for a six-month, 2,000-mile charity trek across Antarctica. The adventure, dubbed the Coldest Journey On Earth, has been organised to raise money for a blindness organisation.
