Shane Richie and Coleen Nolan's teenage son is following in their footsteps with a TV career - after landing a role in Emmerdale.

Jake Roche, 17, whose father plays EastEnders favourite Alfie Moon, has been cast as popular college boy Isaac in the soap.

He will be a new love interest for shy teenager Hannah Barton (Grace Cassidy), while her drug addict sister Holly (Sophie Powles) is putting her family through hell.

Roche said: "I am thrilled to be part of such a great team. Everyone has made me feel so welcome".

"After watching Emmerdale for years on TV, I still have to pinch myself on set as it's all very surreal".

"My family have been very supportive as always and we all can't wait to see my first episode."

Series producer Gavin Blyth added: "Jake is a great addition to the cast".

"Isaac will be a fun character who will offer some light relief for Hannah as her family face their darkest hour."

Jake will arrive on screen as Isaac in August.

Having been a fan of Emmerdale since Annie was in the kitchen I have now given up watching because it has become so depressing. Look at the story lines, we've got drug addiction, paralysis (done before) deceit and betrayal (Chas/Chris) - which just gets sillier. Then we have the menage e trois eg Paddie, Rhona and Marlon. Not a stable relationship anywhere. No humour, just one depressing scenario after another. ~Viv and Bob used to be so funny but even that's gone. I've never come across a poor vet, Paddy should be rolling in it living in the Dales. It's just not real. And could Caine stop chewing gum with his mouth wide open - he's not a boy any more, time you let him grow up.
