The new mother has had a lot to deal with over the past few months, with David leaving her to marry his old flame Alicia and then discovering she was in fact pregnant with David's child.
But now baby Amba has arrived and Priya can see David is happy with Alicia, she takes the step towards an arranged marriage with hopes of finding a husband and a father for her daughter.
Speaking to This Morning's Phillip and Holly, actress Fiona Wade said: "She's had so much going on, she's been sick, she's had a baby and I think she has just realised she is on her own.
"Everyone is saying to her "you're still in love with David" but I think she isn't really. I think she has a love for him, but I think she absolutely realises he is with (Alicia).
"I think she just says "right, that's it, I need to get myself over David and I need a man of my own".
"She has decided "I need a man that is going to look after me and my baby, love will come second...but I need a guy that is just going to be dependable and is not going to mess me around".
"So she thinks her dad is going to be the best person to sort this out."
In the coming weeks, viewers will see a number of suitors for Priya, but soon a new character will be introduced as a potential husband for the new mum.
Actor Pasha Bocarie will be joining the cast of Emmerdale to play Rakesh Kotecha, but it will soon become clear he's no stranger to the Sharmas, as he is an old business rival of Priya's brother Jai.
"There is definitely going to be a lot of drama between him and Jai, so it is not smooth at all," explained Fiona.
"There is a lot of history there and Jai is absolutely not happy."
"Yet maybe Priya has found her love, you never know."
But Priya's dream for a wedding could soon turn cold, especially when David discovers Rakesh may not be all he seems...
