Dirty Dancing comes to Belfast

Fans of the classic 'chick flick' Dirty Dancing are in for a treat this summer as the smash hit theatre show comes to the Grand Opera House in Belfast.

Written by Eleanor Bergstein, script writer and co-producer of the 1987 film, the stage production features all the much-loved characters and original dialogue from the iconic film, as well as a few extra scenes added in.

Also included in the production are the hits from the hugely successful soundtrack, including Do You Love Me?, Hungry Eyes and the Academy Award Winning (I've Had) The Time Of My Life.

Roseanna Frascona, who plays Frances "Baby" Houseman, told UTV: "It is the ultimate chick flick and the love story is brought to the stage.

"And, of course, you (get to see the lift) which is always good fun to do and the reaction is always fantastic."

Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage first opened in 2006, with over five million people worldwide having watched the production.

The show is now embarking on a new UK tour, which will include dates in Dublin, Glasgow, Newcastle and Sheffield.

Producer Karl Sydow said, "We are so pleased to be starting this new stage in Dirty Dancing's UK journey.

"The unique combination of Eleanor Bergstein's iconic story and the breathtaking dancing for which the show is renowned has proven so popular around the country that we are really looking forward to allowing new audiences to experience this timeless classic live on stage."

Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage runs until 16 August at the Grand Opera House, Belfast.
