More than 30,000 people descended on the city for its unique celebrations and the Halloween Carnival that twists through Derry.

Costumes ranged from the scary to the unusual and the city lived up to its reputation as the best city for fright night, with a range of attractions from costumed party-goers, including the Halloween Maze.

The scares continue during the five day long festival with a hall of mirrors and of course a haunted house.

The fireworks display lit up the sky on Wednesday and although the revellers are there for the spooks and party atmosphere, carnival organiser Brendan McMenamin said it is also a great boost for the city.

"This year's event has been spectacular, from last weekend right through we have had a continuous series of amazing events," he explained.

"Our numbers and predictions and attendance's is way through the roof this year and it has been incredible."

But Mr McMenamin said despite the scary costumes, the festival is family friendly.

"It's good spooky fun and it's entertainment and all the family gets a incredible day out.

"People are driving from all over the North to come to events here in the city today and the evidence is that we certainly are ready for our City Of Culture, what better way to spend the day," he added.
