Last year's bridal spectacular organised on Londonderry's Peace Bridge as part of the City of Culture has become the largest gathering of brides ever.

Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records have confirmed that more brides gathered in the city than anywhere else in April 2013.

A total of 748 brides took part, crossing the bridge in the dresses they wore for their big day.

Those taking part included a 91-year-old bride who wore her wedding suit from 1940.

Rachel Bruce, who organised the event, is extremely proud of how the day went.

Describing what had made it so special, she said: "The brides turning out in force and all the wedding dresses from all the different nationalities and everyone out with their own stories behind their dress and the day they had been wearing the dresses before."

The record attempt was organised to raise money for charity and thousands of pounds went to the Foyle Hospice.

Now organisers hope to create a new record when they hold the event again in the summer.

Ms Bruce added: "First of all, we wanted to let all our brides know they are record-breakers and now we are asking them to come back again, celebrate last year's day and we are going to do it again on 5 July."
