Bosses at the Official Charts Company have confirmed that the folk star achieved the feat with the release of his latest project, Songs from the Movies and More, which entered the UK albums chart at number seven when the new rundown was unveiled last Sunday.

A flattered O'Donnell tells the BBC: "I am delighted my new album made it into the top 10 album charts and it's a fantastic feeling to have achieved chart success in the albums charts for the last 25 years.

"I am lucky to have a very loyal and dedicated fan base who I can't thank enough for all their love and support over the years."

Songs from the Movies and More disc is O'Donnell's 33rd album to chart in the UK since 1988.
