In Emmerdale, Eric's wife Val was recently visited by the man with whom she had a one night stand who tells her he is HIV positive and she might be as well.
Struggling with her own health issues and her guilt at subjecting Eric to the virus, Val has been unable to find the courage to get tested.
"It is all so delightfully informative, which is great," Chris told This Morning's Phillip and Holly.
"The journey is, to a huge degree, accurate and ... what Emmerdale does so well is utilise the vehicle of drama.
"It is a very exciting journey for us all.
"Everybody out there is saying "tell him" but how do you (say) "I've got the threat of death".
"Life has a habit of playing tricks on one."
However the storyline takes a further heartbreaking twist when Eric finds himself in bed with Val's sister Diane.
Chris explained: "He has been refused entry to (his) house, he has been refused dialogue with Valerie and he finds a solace in (Diane) and she seems very receptive to his problems."
All three characters will soon have to deal with the reality that they might be HIV positive.
Chris said: "Finally they have come to terms with it, to a degree, in accepting the idea of it. The point will be living with it and will they live with it together?"
Emmerdale airs on UTV weekdays from 7pm.
