The Daleks have exterminated all challengers to be named the greatest monsters in the galaxy by sci-fi fans.
The metal-clad mutant race - first seen on Doctor Who in 1963 - triumphed over creatures from Star Trek, Lord Of The Rings and the Alien and Predator films.
They topped the list in a poll commissioned by leading sci-fi and fantasy magazine SFX.
Second place went to the green-faced and horned character Lorne from Buffy TV spin-off series Angel, while the creatures first seen in Ridley Scott's 1979 film Alien and later revived for sequels were third.
More than 8,000 fans took part in the survey as part of the magazine's 200th issue celebrations.
Also figuring in the list were Gollum from Lord Of The Rings (ranked fifth) and the hideous shape-changing nasty from The Thing which at one stage assumes the form of a severed head which sprouts spider-like legs (eighth place).
Another Doctor Who foe, the Cybermen, were placed 13th.
