Popular telly duo Ant and Dec have told UTV they're tipping Belfast to set the standard for Britain's Got Talent - as the judges, including Simon Cowell, prepare to hold full auditions in the city for the first time.

Simon will be joined by the rest of the panel - comedian David Walliams, actress Amanda Holden and singer Alesha Dixon - to watch hundreds of hopefuls at the Waterfront Hall on Saturday.

Acts from across Northern Ireland will be hoping to impress and achieve their dreams of being put through to the next stage of the competition.

Preliminary auditions in front of the show's producers have been held in Belfast in previous years, but now the show's supremo is taking the hands-on approach. And it could be down to Ant and Dec!

"We've been badgering the production team for years to come to Northern Ireland and do the auditions and we've finally got here," Dec told UTV.

The presenters are as in the dark as we are as to exactly what to expect.

Belfast is going to set the level for Britain's Got Talent in 2014 - it's over to you, Belfast!

Ant & Dec

While BGT hopefuls sign up to enter, no one tells Ant and Dec anything - leaving them to just see how talented the acts are for the first time when they actually take to the stage.

"There'll be some good acts ... there'll be some average acts ... and there'll be a lot of bad acts," Ant says, with a grin.

"Oh, there'll be some awful acts," Dec cheerfully, if wholeheartedly, agrees.

Belfast is the first stop for this year's auditions, with the judges also set to scout for talent in Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester and London.

Last year's Britain's Got Talent winners were Hungarian shadow dance group Attraction - who went on to perform at the Royal Variety Show and look set to take their act to Las Vegas.

Northern Ireland has also delivered some huge talent in the past, with Co Londonderry's Jordan O'Keefe making it to the final of last year's competition.

Britain's Got Talent returns to UTV later this year.

my sister myself and my two daughters were at the auditions of bgt in Belfast yesterday the 18th January, we were told that tickets would be distributed for the evening show that we were attending at 4.00 and that doors would shut at half 6 we got return ticket on the train and arrived at the waterfront to a huge crowd which is ok we expected it, it was 3.45 at this stage, we joined the queue, thinking we will get our tickets and go inside and get something to eat while waiting to go in to the show but apparently simon cowell had only turned up at half 3 and there was a show at 1 0clock which left this show running late so we didn't get our tickets until 5 oclock and weren't allowed into the waterfront , we were told to go away and come back for 8 oclock,we had been standing in really heavy rain soaked through we did find somewhere and had a lovely meal, and returned in time for the show to start at 8 oclock but because it was running late we missed the last train home and so when the show was over at twenty past twelve we had to pay £26 for a taxi home to antrim rant over ,the show was amazing we had a ball really enjoyed it screamed and shout all night well done belfast
