But the no-nonsense business woman is unaware of just how dramatic her situation is as her husband Peter continues his affair with Tina McIntyre.Events unfold when Carla returns from her business trip to Paris and she starts to wonder if she could be pregnant.Alison King, who plays Carla, said: "She's afraid of taking a test in case its positive and she then has to decide what to do."She's never believed herself to be maternal, nor has she ever imagined herself with children."Best friend Michelle Connor tries to help Carla by convincing her to take a test."She can't understand why Carla is putting it off," said Alison. "She keeps telling her that the sooner she takes the test, the sooner she can face up to reality and make some decisions."And when Carla finally takes the test and it shows positive, she puts off telling Peter her news."Carla is completely devastated," said Alison. "She doesn't want to be in this situation. She's scared of change and Carla's happy with everything how it is. Children were never part of her plan."This is all a shock to her because she believes she doesn't want a baby. She's torn over telling Peter because she thinks he will want her to keep it."Peter has quite a hold over Carla and if he found out about it and wanted to keep the baby, I imagine he could talk her round."And as Peter continues to see Tina behind Carla's back, with the young barmaid putting pressure on him to tell his wife the truth, will he be able to confess?Coronation Street airs on UTV Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30pm.
