The 25-year-old, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the soap, was quizzed on Friday over an incident in the early hours of last Saturday in which a Chrysler struck a lamp-post in Manchester city centre.

Another man was arrested at the scene and later charged with driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

Thomas was not charged in connection with the crash, which happened at the junction of Chester Street and Oxford Road shortly after 4am.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The officer who attended found a Chrysler motor vehicle had collided with a lamp post.

"A man was charged with Section 5 of the Road Traffic Act.

A 25-year-old man was interviewed by police on Friday November 6."
