The 25-year-old, who previously appeared in Hollyoaks, had apologised and said he was "deeply ashamed" of the lyrics he recorded as masked alter-ego The Phantom.
But Fountain has now been dismissed from the long-running show.
"Chris Fountain's contract with ITV has been terminated as a result of the unacceptable comments he made in a number of online clips," an ITV spokesperson said.
Before the news about the scandal initially broke, Fountain had already been worried about his character's future - given the departure of on-screen love interest Tina, played by Michelle Keegan.
Following his sacking, Fountain said he was "mortified" by the foul-mouthed rant.
Once again to everyone who I have let down and hurt. I am deeply sorry.
"I completely understand that ITV had no choice but to terminate my contract today," a statement read.
"I have had two wonderful years playing Tommy Duckworth with only happy memories of my time on Coronation Street.
"I am mortified that I have brought so much embarrassment to my colleagues and employers these last few days."
He continued: "My biggest regret however is not to do with losing my job, but that I have hurt and let down so many people including those in a vulnerable situation and I am so very deeply ashamed of this.
"I am also mortified to have put my mother, grandad and girlfriend through the last few days which they are hurt and bewildered by and so do not deserve. I am so sorry."
It is understood that the character of Tommy Duckworth will not be edited out of episodes which have already been filmed, but is likely to be written out by the autumn.
