Singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen has accused his former business partner of sending out false emails suggesting he was a drug addict in a bid to destroy his reputation.

Cohen in court over ex-partner's 'lies'

The Hallelujah hitmaker returned to court on Monday to testify in the second day of the trial of Kelley Lynch, who is accused of bombarding Cohen with harassing phone calls and death threats after he fired her in 2004.

He told the court that Lynch, who is currently being held at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, terrorised him with nasty messages, accused Cohen of using drugs, and sent emails about him to numerous people.

He said: "It's not a pleasant sensation. Ms Lynch routinely accused me of being a drug addict and many other things. Of course I didn't like it, and I felt my reputation was being assailed."

On Friday, the 77-year-old told the jury his 17-year business relationship with Lynch had turned personal and the pair had shared a "brief" romance.

Lynch has pleaded not guilty to charges of harassment.
