Singer Sir Cliff Richard has scrapped a planned performance at Canterbury Cathedral in England following a police raid on his home last week.

The authorities took over the Living Doll singer's Berkshire, England estate as part of an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse that date back to 1985.

Richard has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations he was inappropriate with a teenage boy "completely false", and it now appears the drama has taken its toll on the entertainer, who has cancelled a cathedral performance scheduled for next month.

Announcing the cancellation in a statement on Tuesday, his spokesman said: "Sir Cliff was due to perform on 26 September at a charitable event in Canterbury Cathedral but doesn’t want the event to be overshadowed by the false allegation and has therefore withdrawn.

"He is sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience caused."
