Cheryl Cole is separating from her husband Ashley Cole, her spokesman has said.
Her spokesman, Sundraj Sreenivasan, said: "Cheryl asks the media to respect her privacy during this difficult time."
The statement ends one of the most high-profile showbusiness marriages - the couple wed in 2006 - and follows allegations that the star's husband, the England and Chelsea footballer, had again been unfaithful.
Cole flew back to Britain on Tuesday after fleeing to the US, minus her wedding ring, when reports about her husband surfaced.
The Fight For This Love singer reportedly texted husband Ashley, 29, from the US to say their marriage was over and that he was to leave their £6m Surrey mansion before she returned to Britain.
She sent the message "Move out. It's over" from LA early on Sunday, according to The Sun.
A friend told the newspaper: "Cheryl has decided enough is enough and she is going to divorce him. She has told Ashley to get out of the family home because she does not wish to see him. She has no desire to hear any more excuses or explanations."
Cheryl went to Los Angeles after performing at the Brits last week, taking to the stage despite her heartbreak over reports about her husband.
The 26-year-old singer has been pictured in the US being comforted by US dancer Derek Hough, 24, whom she met when she recorded her album 3 Words.
Derek, who appeared in Dancing With The Stars - the US version of Strictly Come Dancing - co-starred in Cheryl's raunchy video for her new single Parachute.
Chery has been tipped to move to the US to be a judge on Simon Cowell's American version of the X Factor.
Until now, the Fight For This Love singer has maintained a dignified silence over reports that her husband had been with other women.
