The recently refurbished theatre will showcase a version of the Russian play Uncle Vanya which has been translated by County Donegal playwright Brian Friel.

Brian Friel asked County Down born Director Mick Gordon and actor Conleth Hill to put the performance on at the Lyric that runs until March 11, 2012.

Mick Gordon said it was a wonderful invitation from Brian Friel to get involved.

He said: "The combination of the two masters Chekov and Friel is fabulous.

"It is moving, it is very funny.

"It is the fundamental family drama, everybody will enjoy it and they should come and see it because they won't see a cast like this on stage here for a while."

The play has a cast that includes Ian McIlhenny, Conleth Hill and Stella McCusker.

Mick Gordon said: "I'd like to say the cast came because of me but they didn't, they came because of the play and because of Brian Friel.

"Actors love parts and these are the greatest parts written for them," he said.
