Singer Alexandra Burke was left "speechless" after making a cameo appearance in a West End show for charity on Tuesday night.

Burke thrilled with West End cameo

The Bad Boys hitmaker took to the stage in London to sing a rendition of On My Own during a performance of Les Miserables. At the end of her brief appearance, Burke choked back tears as the audience gave her a standing ovation.

The event was part of the BBC's annual Pop Goes the Musical fundraiser in which stars make guest appearances in famous London theatre shows for the Children in Need charity.

After her turn on stage, Burke took to her Twitter blog to thank fans for their support and tell of her joy at fulfilling her dream of performing in the West End.

In a series of tweets, she writes: "I don't say this often. But I'm so proud. So proud to be apart (sic) of this for Children In Need & raising money for a great cause. Giving back means so much2me (sic) & to do this... has made me happy girl. Such an honour a moment I will never forget. Thank you so much to those who supported me. I'm left speechless with how proud I am of this moment."

Other stars taking part in this year's Pop Goes the Musical, which takes place on various dates until December, include Macy Gray, Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell, and boy band Blue.
