Boyle backs studio expansion plans

Director Danny Boyle has thrown his support behind plans to expand the UK's famous Pinewood Studios after politicians blocked previous proposals to improve the facilities.

Bosses at the iconic studios, famous for hosting filming on the James Bond movie series and current Oscars favourite Les Miserables, submitted plans to extend the site in Buckinghamshire, England but faced opposition from local authorities.

The plans were blocked in January last year, but Pinewood bosses have now changed the proposals and resubmitted them in the hope of getting the green light for the expansion.

Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, who showcased many of Pinewood's famous films during his Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in London last summer, has now publicly backed the scheme.

He tells The Guardian newspaper: "Many of the great British films which were showcased at the Olympic Opening Ceremony such as Oliver Twist, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Skyfall were produced at Pinewood. If we are, as a country, to capitalise on our film heritage then we need state-of-the-art facilities like Pinewood is proposing."
