Frontman Jon Bon Jovi travelled to the venue on Tuesday to make the announcement, with the gig scheduled for 15 June 2013.
"This is the one building that I didn't play," he told UTV's Alison Fleming.
"I'd done 'em all and it was always with one eye on when can we play Slane."
According to the singer, Bon Jovi are making the most of the opportunity presented by their UK stadium tour, which will see them debut songs from their forthcoming album.
"A lot of it was happenstance," he explained.
"The idea that you're on tour, the opportunity was here to do it, and this was the cherry on the top."
But a gig in Northern Ireland could also be on the cards in the future, after Alison asked when fans could expect Bon Jovi to return to Belfast.
"It has been way too long, hasn't it? I was only ever there once. I know, it's not right," Jon Bon Jovi said, before going on to muse over the possibility of playing Stormont.
"Be a good idea ..." he said thoughtfully.
