TV reality show Big Brother celebrated its 10th birthday on Sunday in typical style.

The 18th of July marks the anniversary of the first day of the first series of the Channel 4 show.

Some 10 years ago today the first housemates entered the now famous property.

And 10 years and 11 series later, this year's contestants were woken up by the song 'Happy Birthday' by Stevie Wonder to mark the milestone.

The housemates were set a birthday-themed task to set the tone for the rest of the day.

They were challenged to be the first to light a birthday cake in a twist on a relay race.

But the event was hindered by blustery conditions.

Contestants tried in vain to keep candles alight while walking along a track and lighting their allotted partner's wick.

John James seemed to have got the knack when he got exceptionally close to lighting the final flame, but once again the wind intervened and blew out his light.

The festivities will get under way in earnest later tonight when housemates attend Big Brother's Birthday Party, complete with booze, nibbles and a big cake.
