David Beckham took time out from his soccer trip to Australia to visit a children's hospital in Melbourne on Monday.

The British sportsman is in the country with his Los Angeles Galaxy team for a game against Melbourne Victory on Tuesday, and he decided to spread some festive cheer at a local medical facility ahead of the match.

Beckham delighted young patients at the Royal Children's Hospital by signing autographs and posing for pictures with them for more than an hour.

Jacqui Fewson, whose 19-month-old daughter Allegra won a kiss from the soccer player, tells Australia's ABC news: "He said to me: 'I'd love to kiss her, will she cry?' I said 'no, can her mummy have one too?'... He was lovely and he is more handsome in real life and he loves kids."
