Beckham snubbed for knighthood - report

The soccer icon's name was put forward as a potential candidate in May following his retirement from the sport, in recognition of his hugely successful career and his involvement in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

He had been widely tipped to receive the top accolade in 2014, but royal officials have reportedly decided against making him a knight of the realm, according to Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper.

Beckham received a Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal in 2003.

The official list of honourees will be announced on Tuesday.

Who wants one anyway. They hand awards out like jelly babies. The majority of the recipients are just people doing a job or sport which they get paid for and happen to be good at. They are a joke!

I think it's an absolute disgrace' they are giving out these knighthoods willy nilly' yet they can't give it to soneone who has done a lot for sport. He deserves a knighthood, I am raging if it's true he has been snubbed.
