Prince Harry is the new king of pop - he plays tambourine on a track written for his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.

Barlow recruits Harry for Jubilee track

The British royal was recruited by Take That singer Gary Barlow to contribute to Sing, which was composed by the pop star to commemorate the monarch's 60-year reign.

Barlow says: "We got Prince Harry on the track. We met up with him in Jamaica and I took a tambourine along with me and I said: 'Would you just hit this for us?' He hit it and bang, we spun it into the track."

Barlow also reveals it was Harry's dad Charles, Prince of Wales who encouraged him to travel throughout the Commonwealth to find inspiration for the special song.

The pop star explains: "He was the first guy I saw and his bit was actually key. I had a list of questions I wanted to ask him - what does the Queen like, what does she listen to? And he came into the room with six CDs.

"He said: 'Well, I've brought some of my music collection 'cause you need to understand that because we travel so much, we get to hear so much music - it's not what you'd think.' So I was shocked... It was a really eclectic bunch, from Cole Porter to people you've never heard of from Africa...

"He said: 'If you really want the Queen to like this, find people. Go and travel and find people.' And it was at that point I had to go back to the BBC and say: 'We need a bit more money because we've got to get on a plane a few times and go off round the world.'"

Barlow journeyed to Australia, Kenya, Jamaica and the Solomon Islands in March in search of inspiration for Sing, which features 200 guest musicians and will be released later this month.
