The 19-year-old singer impressed Simon Cowell with 'No name' a song he had written himself about falling in love with a mystery girl - later revealed to be a former schoolmate.
David Walliams and Simon Cowell both pressed Ryan to reveal the girl's name, but he just about managed to keep it a secret, telling judges "I really can't say it".
Meanwhile on Twitter Katie announced to her followers "#noname woooooo it's me!"
Speaking on Daybreak on Thursday, Ryan said he almost revealed Katie's name during the audition.
"I was about to say a letter of something when I heard my sister say don't do it, don't do it!" he explained.
The Dubliner said Katie did not know he was going to sing the song, but she was "flat out that I would do something like that for her".
"She's always known I felt a lot of feelings for her," said Ryan, "but she hadn't a clue that it was for her."
But Ryan stayed tight-lipped on whether Katie had been wooed by the love song, saying only: "We're going to stay friends and see what the story is".
No name struck a chord with the Britain's Got Talent audience and some have even said they would like it to be sung at their wedding.
"Hopefully if things go well in the show then I might be able to record it and get it released which would be great," added Ryan.
