Britain's Got Talent hopefuls Bars & Melody have appeared on US television, after being invited to perform on The Ellen Show by comedienne Ellen DeGeneres.

The duo wowed the BGT panel during the audition stage of the competition when they performed their own version of Hopeful by Twista and Faith Evans with original lyrics about their past experiences of bullying. The pair had the audience on their feet, prompting judge SIMON Cowell to hit the golden buzzer, meaning Charlie, 15, and Leondre, 13, go straight through to next week's live semi-finals.After watching Bars & Melody's performance on YouTube, Ellen invited the duo to the US to appear on her popular daytime talk show."I'm so excited I think I'm going to cry." Leondre told her."I'm excited too," she replied. "I saw this video and I was like these guys are amazing."The boys told Ellen about their love of performing and Leondre spoke about being bullied in the past, which inspired him to write about his feelings. He said: "Since primary school I was heavily bullied. I used to move school a lot and I didn't know how to break free so I started writing poems."One day I listened to a beat and I starting writing a poem and it turned into a song. I listened to a lot of Tupac and that developed my style.""I love Tupac as well," Ellen said. "I'm so happy for you. I'm proud of you."I used to write when I was lost when I was younger. It's so cathartic."After performing for the US audience, Ellen surprised the boys with customised varsity jackets and trainers.A grateful Leondre told her: "Ellen, you're the most amazing woman ever!"Bars & Melody will return to the UK to perform in the live semi-finals next week, with hopes of going forward to the Britain's Got Talent final on Saturday 7 June.YouTube
