Veteran British newscaster Andrew Marr has thanked well-wishers for their support as he recovers from a stroke.

Andrew Marr recovering well after stroke

The 53-year-old BBC journalist fell ill earlier this month and was taken to a hospital in London for treatment, while his programmes The Andrew Marr Show and Radio 4's Start The Week continued to air with guest presenters in his place.

Radio host Jeremy Vine, who helped fill in for Marr, has now revealed the broadcaster has been overwhelmed by the touching messages he has received from friends, fans and colleagues.

Vine says: "He's on the mend and he does send a huge thank you to friends and viewers who've bombarded him with goodwill messages. He says that's been truly wonderful, he's really looking forward to returning to work in due course and resuming duties on a Sunday morning... Andrew, good luck from all of us here with your recuperation."
