This week the former X-Files star resumed her role of tracking down serial killer Paul Spector - played by Co Down actor Jamie Dornan.
The new series of the tense BBC/RTE thriller will feature six hour long episodes and will pick up where series one left off as Gibson continues her hunt for the fugitive Spector who has managed to escape her grasp.
So far Anderson and Dornan's characters have yet to meet, but their on-screen cat and mouse relationship has led to the huge success of The Fall.
Anderson said: "I'm over the moon to be back in production with this team again and to step into the shoes of the elusive Stella for what promises to be an even darker second season."
Dornan - soon to appear on cinema screens as the billionaire Christian Grey in the film version of Fifty Shades Of Grey - added: "I'm delighted to be back in production for the second series of The Fall. (Writer and director) Allan Cubitt has outdone himself, and the scripts are stunning."
Actor John Lynch will also be returning as assistant chief constable Jim Burns, and former Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh as Spector's wife Sally-Ann.
Stephen Wright, head of drama for BBC Northern Ireland, said: "We were delighted with the response to series one and can't wait to unleash Allan Cubitt's superb new scripts on the audience."
