Aaron Taylor-Johnson decided to break tradition by adopting his wife Sam Taylor-Wood's surname following their marriage earlier this year because he "wanted to be a part of her".
The actor, formerly known as Aaron Johnson, wed the 45-year-old director in June and the couple subsequently combined their surnames.
The 22-year-old, who is credited under his new name for the first time in latest movie Anna Karenina, has now opened up about their decision, telling London's Evening Standard: "I just don't see why women need to take the man's name.
"I wanted to be a part of her just as much as she wanted to be part of me."
