A long term resident of Lisburn, Daphne and her husband David raised their four children there and still live in the area.
She practiced as a solicitor for many years before running her husband David's constituency office in Upper Bann for fifteen years. She served two terms on the Equality Commission, followed by a term on the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, where she opposed the Commission's proposals for a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland.
Daphne currently sits on the board of the Northern Ireland Memorial Fund and as a music lover she Chairs the Ulster Youth Orchestra encouraging young people to perform in a top class orchestra.
