The Shock Factor!

The X-Factor machine delivered another bolt from the blue on the Sunday night results show, proving that you need to vote to keep your act in the competition!

After all the talk about how popular Olly Murs is with the guys and the gals, the X-Factor favourite was dumped into the bottom two by the voting public. Now that was not expected!

Of course, he nobly took his place alongside the terrible twosome (hardly surprising that John & Edward were there, given their horrific performance on Saturday night).

And they certainly proved that they deserved the place - their rendition of Boyzone's "No Matter What" would have Mr Stephen Gately (RIP) spinning in his grave. Without the tacky dance routines, pyrotechnic displays and glaring backing vocals, the boys stripped the song bare and ripped it to shreds.

A "gutted" Olly Murs gave a polished performance of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" and looked safe!

But didn't Ms Minogue certainly rock the boat?? With Simon and Cheryl both voting to keep Olly and Louis in favour of John & Edward, it was left to Dannii to either send the twins home or to take the competition to deadlock. It seemed a clear enough decision.

Before making her choice, she said: "I have a question. Is it a singing competition that we are voting on here? I need to know the answer to make a decision."

No sooner were the words out of her mouth than I stopped breathing! "What is she doing," I was shouting at the TV! After all the flack John & Edward have received over the last few weeks, it became apparent that hold up, they have changed this show and there is a risk that the better singer could go home here! Thankfully she saw sense though and sent John & Edward home.

As you know, I am not Jedward's biggest fan. However, I have praised them in the past (well this one time on Queen night). They brought a new dimension to the programme. Some would say an unnecessarily new dimension. Is it not the case that what was once a singing competition has morphed into more of an entertainment show?

Some will say that's not a bad thing. But Dannii Minogue has a point. If this was to be classified as an entertainment show, John & Edward would still be in the competition. However it's not. It's a singing competition and therefore the Jedward boys didn't deserve to be there.

No point in whinging though, it has given them a platform and they will be unstoppable now in their quest for quiff domination; but at whose expense? Certainly not Simon or Louis.

Worryingly for Olly, no winner of the X-Factor has ever been in the bottom two. That doesn't mean to say that their chances of success are lessened. Ray Quinn and JLS both survived the sing-off in previous years but both went on to become runners up and successful artists.

So, that leaves Joe and Stacey as the only two remaining contestants. This year's X-Factor has been an altogether different viewing experience. Maybe Olly can break the mould and go all the way. Perhaps staying with tradition, Joe or Stacey will scoop the prize - either way, I still maintain it will be those three for the final on Saturday 12th December.

Elsewhere on Sunday night's results show, Mariah Carey and Susan Boyle performed. Ms Carey looked incredibly well in a floor length black dress (normally she would choose a size zero mini skirt and strapless vest to pour her deliciously curvy figure into)!

Her cover of Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is" was lovely and great to hear her voice back to the good old days. One thing I did notice though (my sister actually pointed this out), Mimi has hands like shovels! They're massive! I am a huge Mariah fan so I'm not poking fun, but do watch it back on the uPlayer and you'll see what I mean!

Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle's performance of her new single, a cover of the Rolling Stones "Wild Horses" was beautiful. She proved to be as potty as ever after - "watch out the public!"

On Saturday night, the contestants will each perform two songs with a theme yet to be decided. The judges also lose the right to choose which act leaves the competition with the public vote being the decider. This week's music stars are Rihanna and Alicia Keys. And so the drama continues!

I am heartily disappointed in the show and I fear that now John and Edward are gone that the show will have very little appeal. Jamie was my fave and when he was put out I was happy that Jedward were there to provide a bit of craic. They weren't great singers but were hugely entertaining. I wish them and Jamie all the best for their future and hope to hear from them again!
