He will fight the Strangford constituency... a place not without controversy.
Iris Robinson was the MP there until recently and with a handsome majority to boot.
But Ulster Unionists point out it was traditionally their seat.
John Taylor the MP for a considerable time.
There will be considerable interest in this constituency as pundits, including myself, will attempt to monitor the fallout from Iris Robinson's fall from grace.
Sir Reg Empey and his advisors have obviously decided to attract some big name candidates in an attempt to improve party fortunes.
They will see Mike Nesbitt as a considerable capture and will hope to scoop some more high profile candidates.
In Strangford the smart seems to be on Jim Shannon taking the DUP ticket.
A hard working and likeable MLA, he would carry much local clout.
The two parties will throw a great deal of energy into the battle as Unionism attempts to sort out its future from a confused starting point.
Likewise North Antrim will attract much interest.
Ian Paisley, junior or senior, against Jim Allister.
Get out your tin hats.
As George Lee found out when he left the comfort of RTE for the Dail, politics can be a tough and frustrating game.
