In the end it was something of an anti-climax.

You had to ask why Shaun Woodward made such energetic efforts to become involved and why on earth George Bush phoned David Cameron to try and twist Sir Reg Empey's arm.

Even up to lunchtime the government was at it.

The Prime Minister phoned the Ulster Unionist leader just a couple of hours before the vote and urged him to change him his mind.

There was no chance, as the Secretary of State's intervention on Monday had left the UUP MLAs so angry they considered calling on the Secretary of State to resign.

When it came to the vote all 17 UUP MLAs present voted against the devolution move. Robert Coulter was in London picking up a gong at Buckingham Palace.

The DUP leader delivered his team as well. The Rev William McCrea the only absentee being at a funeral in Cookstown.

One DUPer said to me it was all pretty impressive.

''No snowmen here,'' he said.

The Sinn Fein leadership was well pleased, while the SDLP members made their point and voted for the motion.

But perhaps the biggest winner was David Ford who will be justice minister on April 12, barring any serious mishaps.

The SDLP are holding a press conference on Wednesday morning to announce a Westminster candidate.

I wonder will my old chum Fearghal McKinney be there?

One could ask; why let the same unionist's who failed to govern without discrimination in our past have part of the process now?. Let's hope we have all learned a lesson from our violent history and move on togather.

If we can,t handle education we should not be given the policing and justice ministery because of its enormity? So we have in the past had a hierarchy of victims now we have a hierarchy of ministeral posts. The uup are trying to gain votes from ex. dup supporters and as the sdlp learded in trying to be greener than the shinners so will the uup learn not to try to play at dup hard ball tactics. International figures have been involved in this process from the start and as Hillary Clinton stated recently "The Obama administration and the United States is committed to helping you on your journey," The process continues and everyone hopes that the uup have a part to play in governing the north and a quote comes to mind while I write this Everyone, Republican or otherwise, has their own particular part to play. No part is too great or too small; no one is too old or too young to do something.

Thank you Blaine. Their are no perfect systems in education and nor are their any perfect systems in government. Work with what you have whether be it large or small and promote your thoughts with determination. Tomorrow will come and it will spark thought and then we are closer to an understanding.

The UUP didn't want to sign up to a deal wherein they were both left out of the equation entirely (So much for power-sharing eh?). As well as this they are the only party who are aware that Policing and Justice are not the most serious issues at hand. The Education system is quite frankly in chaos, no thanks to Caitriona Ruane ruining a perfect system. If we can't handle Education then we haven't a hope of dealing with something of such enormity as policing and justice. The fact that international figures got involved to sort the deal only further ridicules the deal on their part. When will people wake up and realise that the UUP are the only party in Stormont with some sense to their name? Not soon enough by the look of things.

It,s no wonder the uup didn,t want to sign a deal when george bush is on the phone telling them to sign up. Or maybe he phoneing to ask for an application form to join the party because all it needs right now is another mix within the party to totally put it out of its misery. Can anyone really tell us hand on heart what the position of the uup is on policing and justice? Anyway the only people to gain from the uup not voting yes were bt with all the phone calls they got sir reg should be on x factor.
