The Baywatch star thrilled the crowds as, seated in a van on site, he sang Looking for Freedom, the hit he famously belted out atop the structure in 1989, a year before East and West Germany were reunified and Berlin became a single, undivided city again.
The majority of the wall was torn down in 1990, but a large part is still standing, and developers now want to demolish a section to make way for luxury apartment buildings - a move which has attracted much public criticism.
Speaking at the protest, Hasselhoff said: "This last piece of the wall is really sacred. It's about people and it's about hearts that were broken, hearts that were torn apart and lives that were lost. That's what we're talking about today, not a piece of real estate."
He later took to his Twitter page to post a video of the crowd in action, writing: "Thank you for turning up! It must have been at least 10,000 people! You CAN make a difference."
