The warning was issued to drivers in the North Down and Newtownards areas on Sunday morning amid a cold start to the day.

Comber and Ballygowan are also affected.

The Roads Service has salted some of the hardest hit routes overnight.

A statement said: "There is a risk of frost on roads this morning.

"Salting of roads considered to be at risk of frost is currently underway. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling this morning, particularly when driving on untreated roads."

Scattered showers are expected for the rest of the day, pushing in from the south through the afternoon with maximum temperatures of 8C.
